Does Cornell University support 2FA?

cornell.eduEducationNot yet

Cornell University does not currently support authenticator-app (TOTP) two-factor authentication. Cornell University does offer 2FA via SMS text message, its own app, a hardware token, a security key and phone call — better than nothing, but an authenticator app is the more secure option if Cornell University adds it.

2FA methods Cornell University supports

  • SMS text message
  • Proprietary app
  • Hardware token
  • Security key (U2F / WebAuthn)
  • Phone call

Cornell University does not offer an authenticator-app (TOTP) option yet. Authenticator apps are safer than SMS, so it's worth requesting.

How to keep your Cornell University account secure

Use a long, unique password (a password manager helps), turn on any 2FA method Cornell University offers, and stay alert to phishing. See Cornell University's official security documentation ↗. If Cornell University adds authenticator-app support, you'll be able to use MS Authenticator App.
