Does Apple iCloud support 2FA?
Apple iCloud does not currently support authenticator-app (TOTP) two-factor authentication. Apple iCloud does offer 2FA via SMS text message, phone call, a security key and its own app — better than nothing, but an authenticator app is the more secure option if Apple iCloud adds it.
2FA methods Apple iCloud supports
- SMS text message
- Phone call
- Security key (U2F / WebAuthn)
- Proprietary app
Apple iCloud does not offer an authenticator-app (TOTP) option yet. Authenticator apps are safer than SMS, so it's worth requesting.
How to keep your Apple iCloud account secure
Use a long, unique password (a password manager helps), turn on any 2FA method Apple iCloud offers, and stay alert to phishing. See Apple iCloud's official security documentation ↗. If Apple iCloud adds authenticator-app support, you'll be able to use MS Authenticator App.
