Does University of British Columbia support 2FA?

ubc.caEducationNot yet

University of British Columbia does not currently support authenticator-app (TOTP) two-factor authentication. University of British Columbia does offer 2FA via a security key, its own app, a hardware token, SMS text message and phone call — better than nothing, but an authenticator app is the more secure option if University of British Columbia adds it.

2FA methods University of British Columbia supports

  • Security key (U2F / WebAuthn)
  • Proprietary app
  • Hardware token
  • SMS text message
  • Phone call

University of British Columbia does not offer an authenticator-app (TOTP) option yet. Authenticator apps are safer than SMS, so it's worth requesting.
