Does Vanguard support 2FA?

vanguard.comFinanceNot yet

Vanguard does not currently support authenticator-app (TOTP) two-factor authentication. Vanguard does offer 2FA via SMS text message, phone call, a security key and a hardware token — better than nothing, but an authenticator app is the more secure option if Vanguard adds it.

2FA methods Vanguard supports

  • SMS text message
  • Phone call
  • Security key (U2F / WebAuthn)
  • Hardware token

Vanguard does not offer an authenticator-app (TOTP) option yet. Authenticator apps are safer than SMS, so it's worth requesting.

How to keep your Vanguard account secure

Use a long, unique password (a password manager helps), turn on any 2FA method Vanguard offers, and stay alert to phishing. See Vanguard's official security documentation ↗. If Vanguard adds authenticator-app support, you'll be able to use MS Authenticator App.
