Does Virginia Tech support 2FA?
Virginia Tech does not currently support authenticator-app (TOTP) two-factor authentication. Virginia Tech does offer 2FA via SMS text message, phone call, its own app and a hardware token — better than nothing, but an authenticator app is the more secure option if Virginia Tech adds it.
2FA methods Virginia Tech supports
- SMS text message
- Phone call
- Proprietary app
- Hardware token
Virginia Tech does not offer an authenticator-app (TOTP) option yet. Authenticator apps are safer than SMS, so it's worth requesting.
How to keep your Virginia Tech account secure
Use a long, unique password (a password manager helps), turn on any 2FA method Virginia Tech offers, and stay alert to phishing. See Virginia Tech's official security documentation ↗. If Virginia Tech adds authenticator-app support, you'll be able to use MS Authenticator App.
