Does York University support 2FA?

yorku.caEducationNot yet

York University does not currently support authenticator-app (TOTP) two-factor authentication. York University does offer 2FA via a security key, its own app, a hardware token, SMS text message and phone call — better than nothing, but an authenticator app is the more secure option if York University adds it.

2FA methods York University supports

  • Security key (U2F / WebAuthn)
  • Proprietary app
  • Hardware token
  • SMS text message
  • Phone call

York University does not offer an authenticator-app (TOTP) option yet. Authenticator apps are safer than SMS, so it's worth requesting.

How to keep your York University account secure

Use a long, unique password (a password manager helps), turn on any 2FA method York University offers, and stay alert to phishing. See York University's official security documentation ↗. If York University adds authenticator-app support, you'll be able to use MS Authenticator App.
