500px 2FA: How to Set Up an Authenticator App
500px offers two-factor authentication to keep your payment and password settings extra secure. It works with the authentication app of your choosing, so Authenticator App - Novaz can supply the six-digit codes.
A hijacked 500px account can be used to impersonate you and scam your contacts, so 2FA matters. 500px secures sign-ins with an authenticator app — set it up once and you're protected on every login.
2FA methods 500px supports
- Authenticator app (TOTP)
Before you start
- Your 500px login details
- An account password: if you log in with Facebook, Google or Apple, 500px asks you to create one before you turn on two-factor authentication
- Authenticator App - Novaz installed on your iPhone or iPad
- 500px open on a computer, so the barcode is on a different screen from your phone
- A safe place to keep the backup codes 500px offers at the end of setup

If something goes wrong
- 500px rejects the code: make sure your iPhone sets its date and time automatically (Settings > General > Date & Time), then enter the newest code.
- You can't turn on two-factor authentication because you have no password: if you log in with Facebook, Google or Apple, create an account password in Security Settings first.
- The barcode won't scan: zoom in on the page or raise your screen brightness, then scan again.
- You've lost your phone or Authenticator App - Novaz: send 500px a reset request as described below.

How to recover your 500px account
500px lets you copy or download backup codes at the end of setup, but its help doesn't say how many there are or how to use them. Its documented route back in is a reset: if you lose access to your phone or your authenticator app, send a request through the form linked from 500px's two-factor authentication help article. Include your username, your email address and a raw/original file of one of the photos you've uploaded, and 500px says it can reset your account.
