Amazon 2FA: How to Set Up an Authenticator App

amazon.com Supported

Turning on two-step verification means your Amazon password alone is no longer enough to get into your account, which keeps your orders, saved addresses and payment methods safer. Amazon accepts codes from an authenticator app, so Authenticator App - Novaz can generate them for you.

Your Amazon account stores addresses, order history, and sometimes saved cards, which makes it a common target. Besides an authenticator app, Amazon also offers SMS text codes and phone-call codes. An authenticator app (TOTP) is usually the best balance of security and convenience — and it's safer than SMS codes, which can be intercepted through SIM-swap attacks.

2FA methods Amazon supports

  • SMS text message
  • Phone call
  • Authenticator app (TOTP)

Before you start

  • Your Amazon email or phone number and password
  • Authenticator App - Novaz installed on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
  • Amazon's website open on a computer, so you can scan the QR code from that screen

Save a way to recover your account

If Amazon offers backup or recovery codes, download them or write them down and store them somewhere safe. They are how you get back into your account if you ever lose your phone. If it doesn't, check how Amazon recovers accounts before you need it.

If something goes wrong

  • Amazon says the code is wrong: open Settings on your iPhone, go to General > Date & Time, make sure Set Automatically is on, then try a fresh code.
  • The code expired before you clicked "Verify OTP and continue": wait for the next code to appear in Authenticator App - Novaz and enter that one instead.
  • The camera won't pick up the QR code: zoom in on the Amazon page, turn up your screen brightness, or hold your device a little farther away.
  • You no longer have the device with Authenticator App - Novaz: use any backup verification method or backup codes you've kept for your Amazon account to get back in.

How to recover your Amazon account

If you lose access to your authenticator and Amazon gave you backup or recovery codes when you turned on 2FA, sign in with one of them; keep them somewhere safe, away from your phone. Not every service issues codes. If Amazon doesn't, or you didn't save them, use Amazon's account-recovery or support process (or ask your admin, for a work account) to get back in.
