Philips Hue 2FA: How to Set Up an Authenticator App
Your Hue account is how you manage your Philips Hue system, and signing in unlocks features such as controlling your lights while you're away from home. Philips Hue calls the feature two-factor authentication: it asks you to verify your sign-in with a unique code, and you can use an authenticator app such as Authenticator App - Novaz or your phone number.
A Philips Hue account can control connected devices in your home, so 2FA keeps intruders out. Besides an authenticator app, Philips Hue also offers email codes. An authenticator app (TOTP) is usually the best balance of security and convenience.

Save a way to recover your account
If Philips Hue offers backup or recovery codes, download them or write them down and store them somewhere safe. They are how you get back into your account if you ever lose your phone. If it doesn't, check how Philips Hue recovers accounts before you need it.
If something goes wrong
- Philips Hue rejects the code: make sure your iPhone sets its date and time automatically (Settings > General > Date & Time), then enter the newest code.
- You can't find the two-factor setting: it's in your Hue account under "Settings & preferences", in the "Login & security" section.
- The password reset email hasn't arrived: check your spam folder and mark the email as "Not spam", and make sure you typed your email address correctly after clicking "Forgot password".
- "Forgot password" doesn't work for you: if you created your Hue account with Google or Apple social login, sign in with Apple or Google and change the password with that provider instead.

How to recover your Philips Hue account
Philips Hue's help pages don't describe backup codes or a way back in if you lose the device with your authenticator app, so keep that phone safe before you need it. For a forgotten password, select "Forgot password" on the login screen in the Hue app or at www.account.philips-hue.com. If you signed up with Google or Apple, you'll need to change your password with that provider, because the "Forgot password" link can't recover it. If you're locked out of your Hue account some other way, contact Philips Hue support.
