DeviantArt 2FA: How to Set Up an Authenticator App
Your DeviantArt account holds your art and, if you sell it, your earnings, so it needs more than a password. DeviantArt calls the feature two-factor authentication and works with Google Authenticator or any other authenticator app, including Authenticator App - Novaz.
A hijacked DeviantArt account can be used to impersonate you and scam your contacts, so 2FA matters. DeviantArt secures sign-ins with an authenticator app — set it up once and you're protected on every login.
2FA methods DeviantArt supports
- Authenticator app (TOTP)
Before you start
- Your DeviantArt login details and password (you enter the password to start the setup)
- Access to the email inbox on your DeviantArt account: DeviantArt emails you a one-time security code that you need before you can enable two-factor authentication
- An account you sign in to with a DeviantArt password: if you signed up with Google, Apple or Facebook, two-factor authentication isn't available through DeviantArt
- Authenticator App - Novaz installed on your iPhone or iPad
- DeviantArt open on a computer, plus pen and paper or a printer for your recovery codes
Part 1: Turn on 2FA in DeviantArt
- 1
Open Security and privacy
On DeviantArt, open the avatar drop-down menu, go to Account Settings and open the "Security and privacy" section (deviantart.com/settings/auth).
- 2
Enter your password and the emailed code
Enter your password to start the two-factor authentication setup. When asked, enter the one-time security code DeviantArt emails to you.
- 3
Keep the QR code on screen
DeviantArt shows a QR code with a 16-digit text code beneath it. Leave the page open while you pick up your phone.
Part 2: Add DeviantArt to Authenticator App - Novaz
- 4
Add DeviantArt in Authenticator App - Novaz
Open Authenticator App - Novaz, tap the + button and scan the QR code. If you'd rather type it, choose to enter a setup key and type the 16-digit text code exactly as shown. Use "DeviantArt" as the account name, then tap "Save".
- 5
Note the 6-digit number
Authenticator App - Novaz now shows a 6-digit number for DeviantArt. It cycles frequently, so use the current one in the next step.
Part 3: Confirm and finish
- 6
Click Verify and Save
Back on DeviantArt, enter the 6-digit number into the "Authenticator Code" box, then click "Verify and Save".
- 7
Save your recovery codes
DeviantArt now shows a list of recovery codes. Print them or write them down right away, store them in a safe place and don't share them with anyone.
- 8
Know when DeviantArt will ask for a code
DeviantArt asks you to verify your identity when you log in from an unrecognized device or perform sensitive actions like withdrawing earnings. Open Authenticator App - Novaz each time, because the code keeps changing.
If something goes wrong
- The Authenticator Code always shows as invalid: authenticator apps rely on your phone's exact time, so turn on "Set Automatically" under Settings > General > Date & Time on your iPhone, then enter the newest code.
- The one-time security code email hasn't arrived: verify the email address on your account and check your spam folder. If you no longer have access to that address, see DeviantArt's help article on what to do without access to your old email address.
- You use Sign in with Apple with "Hide My Email" and the code never arrives: Apple can sometimes block these emails, so contact DeviantArt Customer Support.
- There's no way to set up two-factor authentication on your account: if you signed up with Google, Apple or Facebook, turn on two-step protection with that provider instead.

How to recover your DeviantArt account
DeviantArt gives you a list of recovery codes when you turn on two-factor authentication, and each one can be used once to get back into your account. If you misplace them, go to the Authentication page in Account Settings, enter your password and click "Regenerate recovery codes"; your old codes stop working. If you've lost the phone with Authenticator App - Novaz and your recovery codes, email accountrecovery@deviantart.com. A team member will ask for additional information to confirm you're the account owner, and DeviantArt warns it may not be able to recover the account if you can't provide it.
