Epic Games 2FA: How to Set Up an Authenticator App

epicgames.com Supported

Two-factor authentication stops anyone who has your Epic Games password from getting into your account and the games linked to it. Epic Games works with third-party authenticator apps, so Authenticator App - Novaz can supply your sign-in codes.

A Epic Games account holds purchases, in-game items, and payment details that thieves can resell. Besides an authenticator app, Epic Games also offers SMS text codes, email codes and a proprietary app. An authenticator app (TOTP) is usually the best balance of security and convenience — and it's safer than SMS codes, which can be intercepted through SIM-swap attacks.

If something goes wrong

  • Epic Games rejects the code: make sure your iPhone's date and time are set automatically (Settings > General > Date & Time), then try the newest code.
  • The code changed while you were typing: wait for the next one and enter it straight away.
  • The QR code won't scan: zoom in on the browser page so the code fills more of the screen, and tilt your phone to avoid glare.
  • You no longer have your phone: sign in with one of the backup codes you saved during setup.

How to recover your Epic Games account

If you lose access to your authenticator and Epic Games gave you backup or recovery codes when you turned on 2FA, sign in with one of them; keep them somewhere safe, away from your phone. Not every service issues codes. If Epic Games doesn't, or you didn't save them, use Epic Games's account-recovery or support process (or ask your admin, for a work account) to get back in.
