GOG.com 2FA: How to Set Up an Authenticator App

gog.com SupportedChecked against official help · September 25, 2026

Your GOG account is what you log in to on GOG.com and in GOG GALAXY. GOG calls the feature two-step login and turns it on by default with codes sent by email, but you can switch to an authenticator app that generates time-based one-time passwords (TOTP), such as Authenticator App - Novaz.

A GOG.com account holds purchases, in-game items, and payment details that thieves can resell. Besides an authenticator app, GOG.com also offers email codes. An authenticator app (TOTP) is usually the best balance of security and convenience.

2FA methods GOG.com supports

  • Email code
  • Authenticator app (TOTP)

Before you start

  • Your GOG email address and password
  • Access to the email inbox on your GOG account: email codes are the default two-step method, so GOG may email you a four-digit code when you log in from a new device, browser or location
  • Authenticator App - Novaz installed on your iPhone or iPad
  • A secure place to store the backup codes GOG gives you at the end of setup

Part 1: Turn on 2FA in GOG.com

  1. 1

    Open your account settings

Log in to GOG.com in your browser and open your account settings at gog.com/account/settings/security.

  2. 2

Go to the Login and Security tab

In your account settings, open the "Login and Security" tab and find the "Two-Factor Authentication" section.

  3. 3

    Choose the authenticator app option

In the "Two-Factor Authentication" section, select the option to use an authenticator app. GOG displays a QR code; leave the page open while you pick up your phone.

Part 2: Add GOG.com to Authenticator App - Novaz

  1. 4

Scan the QR code in Authenticator App - Novaz

Open Authenticator App - Novaz, tap the + button to add a new account and scan the QR code GOG shows. Check the account name, then tap "Save".

  2. 5

    Note the six-digit code

Authenticator App - Novaz now shows a six-digit code for GOG. The code changes after a short time, so have it ready for the next step.

Part 3: Confirm and finish

  1. 6

    Enter the code to verify

Back on GOG, enter the six-digit code from Authenticator App - Novaz to confirm that the setup works.

  2. 7

    Copy your backup codes

Copy the backup codes GOG provides and store them in a secure location, away from your phone. GOG says they let you recover your account if you lose access to your authenticator app.

  3. 8

Know when GOG will ask for a code

GOG now asks for a code whenever you log in from a new device, browser or location. Only one method works at a time, so you'll use Authenticator App - Novaz instead of emailed codes.

If something goes wrong

  • GOG rejects the code: make sure your iPhone sets its date and time automatically (Settings > General > Date & Time), then enter the newest code.
  • You still get four-digit codes by email: only one two-step method can be active at a time, and email codes are the default. Go back to the "Two-Factor Authentication" section on the "Login and Security" tab and select the authenticator app option.
  • An emailed login code hasn't arrived: check your spam folder for an email titled "Two-step authentication" from no-reply@GOG.COM or no-reply@email.gog.com. Keep the login window open, because each code only works for the attempt it was created for.
  • Anything else goes wrong with two-step login: GOG asks you to contact its support team through the account request form on support.gog.com.

How to recover your GOG.com account

GOG gives you backup codes at the end of setup and says they allow you to recover your account if you lose access to your authenticator app. Its help doesn't say how many codes you get or where to enter one. If you run into problems with two-step login, contact the GOG support team through its account request form. If you've also lost access to the email address on your account, support can update your credentials manually after you answer a couple of questions about your profile to confirm you're the owner. GOG staff will never ask for your password.

Frequently asked questions

Is two-step login already on for my GOG account?
Yes. By default, email code authentication is activated on your GOG account: GOG emails a four-digit code, valid for 15 minutes, to your account's email address. Setting up an authenticator app replaces this, because only one method can be used at a time.
Will GOG ask for a code every time I log in?
GOG says two-step login verifies your identity whenever you log in from a new device, browser and/or location.
Which authenticator apps work with GOG?
Apps that generate time-based one-time passwords (TOTP). GOG names Google Authenticator, Authy and Microsoft Authenticator as examples, and Authenticator App - Novaz generates the same kind of codes.
Can I turn two-step login off?
Yes, you can deactivate two-step login in your account settings, but GOG doesn't recommend doing so.
