Mercado Libre 2FA Setup with an Authenticator App
Mercado Libre is where you buy and sell, so your account deserves more than a password. Mercado Libre calls these extra checks verification methods ("Métodos de verificación"), and one of them is Google Authenticator: an authenticator app that gives you temporary codes whenever you need to confirm your identity. Authenticator App - Novaz can take its place, and the codes work in the Mercado Libre and Mercado Pago apps and websites.
Your Mercado Libre account stores addresses, order history, and sometimes saved cards, which makes it a common target. Besides an authenticator app, Mercado Libre also offers SMS text codes. An authenticator app (TOTP) is usually the best balance of security and convenience — and it's safer than SMS codes, which can be intercepted through SIM-swap attacks.
2FA methods Mercado Libre supports
- SMS text message
- Authenticator app (TOTP)

- Authenticator App - Novaz installed on your phone before you start. Mercado Libre's help asks you to have the authenticator app ready first
- Mercado Libre open on a computer or second screen if you want to scan the QR code. Otherwise you can copy the setup key and paste it into the app
- Menu names below come from Mercado Libre's Spanish-language help (Argentina), with English translations in brackets

Save a way to recover your account
If Mercado Libre offers backup or recovery codes, download them or write them down and store them somewhere safe. They are how you get back into your account if you ever lose your phone. If it doesn't, check how Mercado Libre recovers accounts before you need it.
If something goes wrong
- Mercado Libre rejects the code: make sure your iPhone sets its date and time automatically (Settings > General > Date & Time), then enter the newest code.
- The QR code won't scan: copy the setup key ("clave de configuración") instead and paste it into Authenticator App - Novaz.
- You want codes on another phone too: once Google Authenticator is active on at least one device, you can add new devices, or turn the method off, in the "Google Authenticator" section of "Métodos de verificación".
- Someone asks you for a code: don't share it. Mercado Libre says it will never ask you for verification codes through any of its channels, so treat the request as a scam.

How to recover your Mercado Libre account
Mercado Libre's help doesn't describe backup or recovery codes. Your fallback is its other verification methods: codes by SMS, WhatsApp or a call to the phone number on your account, a code sent to your registered email, facial recognition, a QR code, passkeys ("llaves de acceso") or your password. You can review them under "Mi perfil" > "Seguridad" > "Métodos de verificación". If you can't use any method, you need to recover access to your account: select "No puedo iniciar sesión" (I can't sign in) when Mercado Libre asks you to choose a verification method. Have your identity document nearby, find a well-lit place and follow the instructions to validate your identity. Once the validation is complete, you can get back into your account.
