Facebook 2FA: How to Set Up an Authenticator App
Two-factor authentication means that knowing your Facebook password isn't enough to get into your account. Facebook supports codes from an authentication app, and Authenticator App - Novaz can be that app.
A hijacked Facebook account can be used to impersonate you and scam your contacts, so 2FA matters. Besides an authenticator app, Facebook also offers SMS text codes and security keys. An authenticator app (TOTP) is usually the best balance of security and convenience — and it's safer than SMS codes, which can be intercepted through SIM-swap attacks. For the strongest protection, Facebook also supports hardware security keys.
2FA methods Facebook supports
- SMS text message
- Authenticator app (TOTP)
- Security key (U2F / WebAuthn)
Before you start
- The Facebook app on your phone, signed in to your account
- Authenticator App - Novaz installed on your iPhone or iPad
- Access to wherever Facebook sends its verification code, since it asks you to confirm it's you
- A couple of minutes to switch between the two apps
Part 1: Turn on 2FA in Facebook
- 1
Open the Facebook menu
Launch the Facebook app, open your profile, then tap the three-line menu in the bottom-right corner.

- 2
Head to Accounts Center
Scroll down and tap "Settings & Privacy", then "Settings". From there, choose "See more in Accounts Center".

- 3
Find two-factor authentication
Inside Accounts Center, open "Password and security" and select "Two-factor authentication".

- 4
Pick your account and the app method
Choose your Facebook account and type in the code Facebook asks for to confirm it's you. Then select "Authentication app" and tap "Next".

- 5
Copy the key or save the QR code
Facebook gives you two ways to connect: "Copy key" and "View barcode/QR code". Copy the key if you'd like to type the account in yourself, or take a screenshot of the QR code so Authenticator App - Novaz can read it from a photo or file.

Part 2: Add Facebook to Authenticator App - Novaz
- 6
Add Facebook in Authenticator App - Novaz
Open Authenticator App - Novaz and tap "+". If you copied the key, choose "Manually", paste it into "Secret Key", fill in "Service" and "Account", and use the plus to find the Facebook icon. If you took a screenshot, choose "Photo" or "File" and pick the image, and the account is added for you.

- 7
Copy your Facebook code
Your new Facebook entry now shows a 6-digit code. Tap it to copy it for the pairing step.

Part 3: Confirm and finish
- 8
Confirm the code in Facebook
Once you're back in Facebook, tap "Next". Paste your code into the field that appears, then tap "Next" once more to finish.

- 9
Save a way to recover your account
If Facebook offers backup or recovery codes, download them or write them down and store them somewhere safe. They are how you get back into your account if you ever lose your phone. If it doesn't, check how Facebook recovers accounts before you need it.
If something goes wrong
- Facebook won't accept the code: check that your iPhone's date and time are set automatically under Settings > General > Date & Time, then use a new code.
- The code expired before you pasted it: wait for the next code, copy it, and paste it right away.
- The screenshot won't import: make sure the whole QR code is visible in the image, or go back and use "Copy key" to add the account manually.
- Getting a new phone: set up two-factor authentication with Authenticator App - Novaz on the new device while you can still sign in to Facebook.

How to recover your Facebook account
If you lose access to your authenticator and Facebook gave you backup or recovery codes when you turned on 2FA, sign in with one of them; keep them somewhere safe, away from your phone. Not every service issues codes. If Facebook doesn't, or you didn't save them, use Facebook's account-recovery or support process (or ask your admin, for a work account) to get back in.
