MyFRITZ!Net 2FA: How to Set Up an Authenticator App
Your MyFRITZ! account on myfritz.net is how you reach the FRITZ!Boxes registered with it over the internet, so it deserves more than a password. FRITZ! calls the feature additional confirmation ("Additional protection" in your account settings) and supports one-time passwords from an authenticator app, so Authenticator App - Novaz can supply your codes.
A MyFRITZ!Net account often holds work and project data, so 2FA keeps it private. Besides an authenticator app, MyFRITZ!Net also offers security keys and a hardware token. An authenticator app (TOTP) is usually the best balance of security and convenience. For the strongest protection, MyFRITZ!Net also supports hardware security keys.
2FA methods MyFRITZ!Net supports

If something goes wrong
- The code is rejected: make sure your iPhone sets its date and time automatically (Settings > General > Date & Time), then enter the newest code.
- The menus don't match: FRITZ! writes its instructions for the latest FRITZ!OS, so update your FRITZ!Box first.
- You can't log in and have neither your phone nor the recovery key: remove the additional protection from your FRITZ!Box user interface, as described under recovery below.
- You also want to approve FRITZ!Box settings from on the go: that's a separate setup in the FRITZ!Box itself, under "System" > "FRITZ!Box Users" > "Additional Confirmation".

How to recover your MyFRITZ!Net account
When you set up the one-time password, MyFRITZ! gives you a recovery key: save it and enable "I saved the key" before you click "Finished". If you've lost both the device with Authenticator App - Novaz and the recovery key, you can remove the protection from your FRITZ!Box: in the FRITZ!Box user interface, click "Internet", then "MyFRITZ! Account", and click "Remove Additional Protection for MyFRITZ! Account" in the section "Additional Protection for Your MyFRITZ! Account" (it may take a moment to appear). Click "yes" and, if asked, confirm on the FRITZ!Box that the procedure may be executed. You can then log in to myfritz.net and set up the authenticator again.
Frequently asked questions
- Which other confirmation methods does MyFRITZ!Net support?
- Besides an authenticator app, you can use a fingerprint scanner or face recognition on your mobile device, or a USB security key (U2F security token) on your computer.
- Is this the same as the FRITZ!Box's own additional confirmation?
- No. MyFRITZ!Net protects the login to your MyFRITZ! account. The FRITZ!Box has its own "Additional Confirmation" for security-relevant settings. To confirm those over the internet, enable "Enable confirmation via Google Authenticator app" (only possible where the FRITZ!Box is located), then set up the app with "New Setup" under "Confirmation via Google Authenticator app" for your FRITZ!Box user.
- Which authenticator apps can I use?
- FRITZ! names apps that support the TOTP procedure, such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, 2FAS Authenticator and Authy. Authenticator App - Novaz uses the same standard.
- What else does FRITZ! recommend for MyFRITZ! access?
- Give each FRITZ!Box user with internet access an individual username and a strong password you don't use anywhere else, and use an HTTPS port other than 443 under "Internet" > "Permit Access" > "FRITZ!Box Services".
