Outbrain 2FA: How to Set Up an Authenticator App

outbrain.com SupportedChecked against official help · September 25, 2026

Outbrain requires two-factor authentication for all users who log in to its dashboard, to protect account information. You choose between email verification and an authenticator app, and Outbrain recommends the authenticator app, which means Authenticator App - Novaz can supply your login codes. This guide follows Outbrain's advertiser help for the Amplify dashboard.

A Outbrain account holds campaigns and client data, so 2FA keeps it out of the wrong hands. Besides an authenticator app, Outbrain also offers email codes. An authenticator app (TOTP) is usually the best balance of security and convenience.

2FA methods Outbrain supports

  • Email code
  • Authenticator app (TOTP)

Before you start

  • Your Outbrain login email and password
  • Authenticator App - Novaz installed on your iPhone or iPad
  • The Outbrain dashboard open on a computer, so the QR code is on a different screen from your phone
  • Access to the inbox of your Outbrain login email, in case you ever need to fall back to email codes

Part 1: Turn on 2FA in Outbrain

  1. 1

    Log in to Outbrain

Log in with your email and password. If two-factor authentication isn't set up yet, Outbrain shows "Please select your authentication method". If you already use email verification and want to switch, open your "User Settings" and use the "Two factor authentication" section instead.

  2. 2

    Choose Authenticator app

Select "Authenticator app" (marked "Recommended"). In the "Set up an authenticator app" box that appears, click "Get started".

  3. 3

Keep the QR code on screen

The "Connect your authenticator app" window shows a QR code. If you'd rather type a key, click "Enter code manually instead" to see a text code.

Part 2: Add Outbrain to Authenticator App - Novaz

  1. 4

Add Outbrain in Authenticator App - Novaz

Open Authenticator App - Novaz, tap the + button and scan the QR code. If you used the manual code, choose to enter a setup key, use your full Outbrain email address as the account name as Outbrain asks, type the code exactly as shown and tap "Save".

  2. 5

    Find the login code

Authenticator App - Novaz now shows a code for Outbrain. Keep the app open for the next step.

Part 3: Confirm and finish

  1. 6

Click Next and enter the code

Back on Outbrain, click "Next", enter the code from Authenticator App - Novaz and click "Done".

  2. 7

    Confirm the connection

Outbrain shows "Your authenticator app has been connected successfully". Click "Done".

  3. 8

Know when Outbrain asks for a code

At each login, the "Two-factor authentication required" screen asks you to "Enter the code" from your authenticator app, then click "Log in". A login lasts 7 days; tick "Trust this device" to extend it to a month.

  4. 9

Save a way to recover your account

If Outbrain offers backup or recovery codes, download them or write them down and store them somewhere safe. They are how you get back into your account if you ever lose your phone. If it doesn't, check how Outbrain recovers accounts before you need it.

If something goes wrong

  • Outbrain rejects the code: your phone's time may be out of sync. Make sure your iPhone sets its date and time automatically (Settings > General > Date & Time), then enter the newest code.
  • Codes still fail: Outbrain suggests checking that you have an adequate internet connection. If the problem only happens on Outbrain, contact Outbrain's support team.
  • You fell back to email and no code arrived: click "Resend code" on the login page and whitelist the domain notice.outbrain.com. Email codes are only valid for 5 minutes after they reach your inbox.
  • You want to change your method later: go to your "User Settings" and adjust two-factor authentication there.

How to recover your Outbrain account

Outbrain's help doesn't describe backup codes. Its screenshot of the authenticator login screen shows an "Authenticate via email" link next to "Contact support", and email verification is one of Outbrain's two supported methods: a 6-digit code goes to your email address and is valid for 5 minutes, with "Resend code" if it doesn't arrive. So keep access to the inbox of your Outbrain login email. If you can't get a code either way, contact Outbrain support. Once you're back in, you can connect an authenticator app again or change your method in "User Settings".
