Seznam.cz 2FA: How to Set Up an Authenticator App

seznam.cz SupportedChecked against official help · September 25, 2026

Your Seznam Account (Seznam Účet) signs you in to Seznam.cz services, including your Seznam mailbox. Seznam calls the feature two-factor authentication (dvoufázové ověření): it's optional but recommended, and it works with any authentication app that shows one-time codes, including Authenticator App - Novaz.

Your Seznam.cz inbox is the master key to your other accounts — attackers use it to reset passwords everywhere. Besides an authenticator app, Seznam.cz also offers a proprietary app. An authenticator app (TOTP) is usually the best balance of security and convenience.

2FA methods Seznam.cz supports

  • Authenticator app (TOTP)
  • Proprietary app

Before you start

  • Your Seznam username and password
  • A valid, verified phone number on the account: you can't set up two-factor authentication without one, and it becomes your recovery phone number (záchranné číslo)
  • Authenticator App - Novaz installed on your iPhone or iPad
  • Your Seznam Account settings (ucet.seznam.cz) open on a computer, so the QR code is on a different screen from your phone
  • If you use an email program such as Outlook or Thunderbird, you'll need to set up a special password for it afterwards

Part 1: Turn on 2FA in Seznam.cz

  1. 1

    Open Account Security

Sign in to your Seznam Account settings, open the "Account Security" ("Zabezpečení účtu") tab and find the "Two-factor authentication" ("Dvoufázové ověření") section. If Seznam asks you to verify that the account is yours, do that first.

  2. 2

    Add a verification device

Click "Add verification device" ("Přidat ověřovací zařízení"). Enter a name you'll recognise later, for example "iPhone – Novaz", then click "Continue" ("Pokračovat"). Seznam shows a QR code and an alphanumeric key.

Part 2: Add Seznam.cz to Authenticator App - Novaz

  1. 3

Add Seznam in Authenticator App - Novaz

Open Authenticator App - Novaz, tap the + button and scan the QR code. If it won't scan, choose to enter a setup key and type the alphanumeric key exactly as shown. Check the account name, then tap "Save".

  2. 4

    Note the 6-digit code

Authenticator App - Novaz now shows a six-digit code for Seznam that changes every 30 seconds. Keep the app open for the next steps.

Part 3: Confirm and finish

  1. 5

    Click Scanned, continue

Back on Seznam, click "Scanned, continue" ("Naskenováno, pokračovat"). A field appears for the code shown in your authentication app.

  2. 6

Enter the code and click Finish

Type the current code from Authenticator App - Novaz and click "Finish" ("Dokončit").

  3. 7

    Confirm your recovery phone number

Check that your recovery phone number is correct and current, then confirm or update it. That completes adding the verification device, which then appears in your Seznam Account settings.

  4. 8

Set a password for email programs

If you use an email program such as Outlook or Thunderbird, set up a new password that works only for IMAP/POP3 and SMTP. Seznam emails you a reminder when a program tries to connect after you turn on two-factor authentication.

  5. 9

Save a way to recover your account

If Seznam.cz offers backup or recovery codes, download them or write them down and store them somewhere safe. They are how you get back into your account if you ever lose your phone. If it doesn't, check how Seznam.cz recovers accounts before you need it.

If something goes wrong

  • Seznam rejects the code: on the code screen click "Use a different verification method" ("Jiný způsob ověření"). Also check that your iPhone sets its date and time automatically (Settings > General > Date & Time).
  • Your email program stops signing in: this is expected with two-factor authentication. Use the special IMAP/POP3 and SMTP password instead; if you later turn two-factor authentication off, switch the program back to your normal password.
  • You're tired of entering codes on your own computer: after entering a code, mark the browser as "Trusted" ("Důvěryhodný") and Seznam will only ask for your username and password there. Only do this on personal, unshared devices.
  • You can't find an answer: under "Use a different verification method", choose "I need help" ("Potřebuji pomoc") to reach the help pages and Seznam's online support during business hours.

How to recover your Seznam.cz account

Seznam's help doesn't describe backup codes. Your fallback is your verified phone number: on the code screen click "Use a different verification method" ("Jiný způsob ověření"), choose "Request SMS code" ("Vyžádat SMS kód"), and once the countdown ends, click the button to send the SMS, then enter the code and confirm. Without a verification device or your verified phone, you can't log in until you get one of them back, and if you've lost both permanently, Seznam says you can no longer access the account. That's why Seznam recommends setting up more than one verification device and keeping your recovery phone number current.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to give Seznam my phone number?
Yes, to use two-factor authentication. Seznam won't set it up without a verified phone number, which serves as a backup when you can't reach your verification devices and helps you recover a forgotten password.
Will Seznam ask for a code every time I sign in?
After your username and password, Seznam asks for the code from your authentication app, unless you marked that browser as "Trusted" after an earlier sign-in.
How do I turn two-factor authentication off?
In "Account Security" ("Zabezpečení účtu"), remove every verification device one by one. When the last one is gone, two-factor authentication is off and you sign in with just your username and password.
