SoundCloud 2FA: How to Set Up an Authenticator App

soundcloud.com SupportedChecked against official help · September 25, 2026

Your SoundCloud account holds your tracks, playlists, followers and messages, so it deserves more than a password. SoundCloud calls the feature Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), and it works only with an authenticator app, not text messages, so Authenticator App - Novaz can generate your sign-in codes.

A SoundCloud account is linked to your profile and payment details, so 2FA is worth it. SoundCloud secures sign-ins with an authenticator app — set it up once and you're protected on every login.

2FA methods SoundCloud supports

  • Authenticator app (TOTP)

Before you start

  • Your SoundCloud username or email and password
  • A confirmed email address on your SoundCloud account, so you can recover the account if needed. You can check it in your Settings on the website
  • A web browser: 2FA can only be managed on the SoundCloud website, although it then applies to both the website and the mobile app
  • Authenticator App - Novaz installed on your iPhone or iPad
  • A safe place for your backup codes, which SoundCloud lets you download only once

Part 1: Turn on 2FA in SoundCloud

  1. 1

Open your Settings on the website

Sign in to SoundCloud in a browser and open your Settings at soundcloud.com/settings. You can't manage 2FA from the SoundCloud mobile app.

  2. 2

    Open the Two-Factor Authentication tab

Select the "Two-Factor Authentication" tab. SoundCloud shows a QR code for your authenticator app. Keep the page open while you pick up your phone.

Part 2: Add SoundCloud to Authenticator App - Novaz

  1. 3

Add SoundCloud in Authenticator App - Novaz

Open Authenticator App - Novaz, tap the + button and scan the QR code. If it won't scan, choose to enter a setup key and type the setup key SoundCloud shows. Check the account name, then tap "Save".

  2. 4

    Note the 6-digit code

Authenticator App - Novaz now shows a 6-digit code for SoundCloud. It changes every 30 seconds, so have it ready for the next step.

Part 3: Confirm and finish

  1. 5

Turn on email backup, if offered

After scanning, some accounts see "Add email as a backup verification method". Turn on the toggle if you want SoundCloud to email you a code when you can't use the app. This option is still rolling out, so you may not see it.

  2. 6

    Enter the code to confirm

Back on SoundCloud, enter the 6-digit code from Authenticator App - Novaz to confirm the setup.

  3. 7

    Download your backup codes

Download your backup codes and store them somewhere secure. SoundCloud saves them as soundcloud-backup-codes.txt and offers them only once, during setup. 2FA is now active, and SoundCloud asks for a code after your username and password on web and mobile.

If something goes wrong

  • SoundCloud rejects the code: 2FA codes are time-based, and incorrect time settings or time zone changes are the most common cause. Check that your iPhone sets its date and time automatically (Settings > General > Date & Time); if it already does, turn it off and back on to resync.
  • You can't find the 2FA settings in the app: 2FA can only be managed on the website, so open your Settings in a browser.
  • An email code doesn't work: email codes are valid for 5 minutes and only once, and requesting a new code cancels the old ones. Use the latest code, check your spam folder, and check the right inbox if you have several accounts.

How to recover your SoundCloud account

If you can't use Authenticator App - Novaz, enter your username and password and, when asked for a code, choose the option to use a backup code; each code works once. Look for soundcloud-backup-codes.txt in the Downloads folder of the device you used to set up 2FA. If email backup is on for your account, select "Try another method" on the code screen, then "Send code to email", and enter the code from your inbox. If you still have your old phone, sign in with the code it shows and then move your codes to the new device. With no app, backup codes or old device, contact SoundCloud Support through the support bot, using the email address linked to your account. You'll need to verify your identity before access is restored.
