TeamViewer 2FA: How to Set Up an Authenticator App
Two-factor authentication protects your TeamViewer account, and with it your Computers & Contacts list, from unauthorized access by asking for an additional security code. It works with any authenticator app that supports time-based one-time passwords (TOTP) or is compatible with Google Authenticator, which includes Authenticator App - Novaz. TeamViewer's instructions have you turn it on in the web Management Console.
A TeamViewer account often holds work and project data, so 2FA keeps it private. TeamViewer secures sign-ins with an authenticator app — set it up once and you're protected on every login.
2FA methods TeamViewer supports
- Authenticator app (TOTP)
Before you start
- Your TeamViewer account email address and password
- Authenticator App - Novaz installed on your iPhone or iPad
- The TeamViewer Management Console (login.teamviewer.com) open on a computer, so the QR code is on a different screen from your phone
- A safe place for your recovery code: TeamViewer won't let you finish setup until you download, print or copy it
Part 1: Turn on 2FA in TeamViewer
- 1
Open Edit profile in the Management Console
Sign in to the Management Console with your TeamViewer account. Go to the top right, select your profile and click "Edit profile".
- 2
Start two-factor authentication
Select "Security" and click "Activate two-factor authentication". Then click "Continue". The Management Console shows a QR code; keep the page open.
Part 2: Add TeamViewer to Authenticator App - Novaz
- 3
Scan the QR code with Authenticator App - Novaz
Open Authenticator App - Novaz, tap the + button and scan the QR code shown in the Management Console. Check the account name, then tap "Save".
Part 3: Confirm and finish
- 4
Save your recovery code
Download, print or copy the recovery code and store it in a safe place. TeamViewer asks you to do this before you can activate two-factor authentication, and suggests keeping more than one printed copy.
- 5
Enter the code and click Activate
Open Authenticator App - Novaz and find the security code it now shows for TeamViewer. Each code is valid only for a short time, so enter the current one in the Management Console right away and click "Activate".
- 6
Click Finish
Click "Finish". From now on, when you sign in to TeamViewer (Classic) with the user icon in the top right corner and "Sign In", you enter your credentials and then the security code from the app.
If something goes wrong
- TeamViewer rejects the security code: this can be caused by the wrong time on your phone. Make sure your iPhone sets its date and time automatically (Settings > General > Date & Time), then try the newest code.
- You got an email saying your license administrator enforced 2FA: click "SET UP TWO-FACTOR-AUTHENTICATION" in the email, sign in, select "Take me to 2FA", scan the QR code and click "Continue", save your recovery code and click "Continue", then enter the code and select "Activate".
- You still can't get working codes: deactivate two-factor authentication with your 16-character recovery code, then set it up again. Save the new recovery code, because it's different each time you turn 2FA on.
- You can't find your recovery code: while you can still sign in, go to "Edit profile" > "Security" > "View Recovery Code" in the Management Console. You'll need a current security code to see it.

How to recover your TeamViewer account
TeamViewer issues a single recovery code during setup, and it is your last resort if you lose your phone or Authenticator App - Novaz. Go to login.teamviewer.com/LogOn#deactivate-tfa, enter your TeamViewer email address and password, enter the recovery code and click "Deactivate". You can then sign in with your email and password and turn two-factor authentication on again, which gives you a new recovery code. TeamViewer itself cannot deactivate two-factor authentication: if you lose the recovery code as well, you lose access to every TeamViewer feature that needs your account. The exception is a company account where your license administrator enforces 2FA: the administrator can reset 2FA for you, and you set it up again at your next login.
Frequently asked questions
