Autodesk 2FA: How to Set Up an Authenticator App

autodesk.com SupportedChecked against official help · September 25, 2026

Your Autodesk Account is how you sign in to Autodesk and manage your profile and security settings, so it deserves more than a password. Autodesk calls the feature 2-step verification and supports authenticator apps that generate 6-digit codes, so Authenticator App - Novaz can supply your codes.

A Autodesk account can hold your creative work and files, so protect it with 2FA. Besides an authenticator app, Autodesk also offers SMS text codes, phone-call codes and email codes. An authenticator app (TOTP) is usually the best balance of security and convenience — and it's safer than SMS codes, which can be intercepted through SIM-swap attacks.

2FA methods Autodesk supports

  • SMS text message
  • Phone call
  • Email code
  • Authenticator app (TOTP)

Before you start

  • Your Autodesk email address and password (Autodesk asks you to sign in again during setup)
  • Authenticator App - Novaz installed on your iPhone or iPad before you start, as Autodesk asks
  • Autodesk Account (profile.autodesk.com) open on a computer, so the QR code is on a different screen from your phone
  • If your company's Autodesk Forma hub signs in through single sign-on (SSO), 2-step verification is handled by your identity provider instead

Part 1: Turn on 2FA in Autodesk

  1. 1

    Open Password and security

Sign in to Autodesk Account. Expand your profile and, under "My profile and settings", click "Password and security". On the "My profile and settings" page, click "Security" in the left-hand pane if it isn't already open.

  2. 2

    Click Set up

Click "Set up" in the 2-step verification area. When Autodesk asks, enter your email and password again.

  3. 3

Keep the QR code on screen

The "Set up 2-step verification" screen shows a QR code, with a string of characters below it. Leave it open while you pick up your phone.

Part 2: Add Autodesk to Authenticator App - Novaz

  1. 4

Add Autodesk in Authenticator App - Novaz

Open Authenticator App - Novaz, tap the + button and scan the QR code. If it won't scan, select the Copy icon next to the string of characters below the QR code, choose to enter a setup key in the app and paste or type it. Use "Autodesk" as the account name, then tap "Save".

  2. 5

    Note the 6-digit code

Authenticator App - Novaz now shows a 6-digit code for Autodesk. It changes every 30 seconds, so have it ready for the next step.

Part 3: Confirm and finish

  1. 6

Enter the code and click Turn on

Back in Autodesk Account, enter the 6-digit code in the "Verification Code" field and click "Turn on".

  2. 7

    Check that it's on

You'll now see "Turned on using authenticator app" next to 2-step verification in your account.

  3. 8

Know when Autodesk will ask for a code

When you sign in, Autodesk asks for the security code from Authenticator App - Novaz. On a device you trust, select "Don't ask again on this device for next 30 days" to skip the prompt for 30 days.

  4. 9

Save a way to recover your account

If Autodesk offers backup or recovery codes, download them or write them down and store them somewhere safe. They are how you get back into your account if you ever lose your phone. If it doesn't, check how Autodesk recovers accounts before you need it.

If something goes wrong

  • Autodesk rejects the code: make sure your iPhone sets its date and time automatically (Settings > General > Date & Time), then enter the newest code.
  • The QR code won't scan: select the Copy icon next to the characters below the QR code and enter them as a setup key in Authenticator App - Novaz.
  • You already use text-message codes: open "Password and security", click "Security", then "Edit" in the 2-step verification area and choose "Switch to an authentication app".
  • A Forma project asks you to "Set up 2-step verification": your hub admin has made it required. The link takes you to your Autodesk profile, where you follow the steps above.

How to recover your Autodesk account

Autodesk's help pages don't describe backup codes. If your phone with Authenticator App - Novaz isn't available, click "USE ANOTHER METHOD" when you sign in. Autodesk's guide shows a code texted to your phone number, or "SEND CODE" for a 6-digit code emailed from noreply@autodesk.com. Type it into the "6-digit code" field and click "ENTER CODE", or click "RESEND" if it expires. Once you're in, open "Edit" in the 2-step verification area to switch methods or turn it off, then set it up again on your new phone. If you still can't sign in, open the Get Help menu from the icon in the lower-right corner of Autodesk Account, choose "Post-purchase support" > "Sign in & profile", and click "Contact a support agent".

Frequently asked questions

Which authenticator apps does Autodesk support?
Autodesk names third-party apps such as Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator and Cisco Duo. Any app that scans the QR code and shows 6-digit codes works the same way, including Authenticator App - Novaz.
How do I turn off 2-step verification?
Open "Password and security", click "Security" in the left-hand pane, then "Edit" in the 2-step verification area. Select "Turn off", click "Continue", and click "Turn off" again when prompted.
My company requires 2-step verification. Is the setup different?
No. Admins of Autodesk Forma hubs can require it, but each person still sets it up in their own Autodesk profile. Hubs that sign in with SSO manage it through their identity provider instead.
