Trend Micro 2FA: How to Set Up an Authenticator App

trendmicro.com SupportedChecked against official help · September 25, 2026

Your Trend Micro home account, now called a TrendLife account and managed at account.trendlife.com, is where you sign in to activate and manage your Trend Micro subscription. Trend Micro calls the feature two-factor authentication (2FA) and supports an authenticator app alongside text messages and email, so Authenticator App - Novaz can generate your codes.

A Trend Micro account is part of your security setup, so it deserves strong 2FA of its own. Besides an authenticator app, Trend Micro also offers SMS text codes and email codes. An authenticator app (TOTP) is usually the best balance of security and convenience — and it's safer than SMS codes, which can be intercepted through SIM-swap attacks.

2FA methods Trend Micro supports

  • SMS text message
  • Email code
  • Authenticator app (TOTP)

Before you start

  • Your TrendLife account email address and password
  • Authenticator App - Novaz installed on your iPhone or iPad
  • Ideally a mobile number or email address for a second method: Trend Micro recommends setting up at least two, so you can still sign in if one fails
  • account.trendlife.com open on a computer, so the QR code is on a different screen from your phone

Part 1: Turn on 2FA in Trend Micro

  1. 1

Sign in to your TrendLife account

Go to account.trendlife.com and log in with your email address and password.

  2. 2

    Open My Profile

Navigate to the "Profile" tab, then select "My Profile".

  3. 3

    Go to Two-factor Authentication

Open the "Two-factor Authentication" tab. You'll see the three methods: "Authentication App", "Text Message (SMS)" and "Email Address".

  4. 4

Select Set Up next to Authentication App

Select "Set Up" next to "Authentication App". The prompts offer to help you install an app; you already have one, so proceed until a QR code appears.

Part 2: Add Trend Micro to Authenticator App - Novaz

  1. 5

Add Trend Micro in Authenticator App - Novaz

Open Authenticator App - Novaz, tap the + button and scan the QR code. If the scan fails, choose to enter a setup key in the app and type the code that TrendLife shows for manual entry. Use "TrendLife" or "Trend Micro" as the account name, then tap "Save".

  2. 6

    Check that a code appears

Authenticator App - Novaz now shows a code for your TrendLife account that refreshes on a short timer. Keep the app open in case the setup prompts ask you for the current code.

Part 3: Confirm and finish

  1. 7

    Select Done

Back on the TrendLife page, finish the prompts and select "Done" to confirm the app is saved. From now on, TrendLife asks for a verification code in addition to your password each time you log in.

  2. 8

Add a second method and pick your default

Trend Micro recommends a backup method, so select "Set Up" next to "Text Message (SMS)" or "Email Address" as well. To make the authenticator app the method you use first, select "Manage" next to it, then "Set as Default".

If something goes wrong

  • The code is rejected: make sure your iPhone sets its date and time automatically (Settings > General > Date & Time), then enter the newest code.
  • The QR code won't scan: enter the code TrendLife shows for manual entry as a setup key in Authenticator App - Novaz instead.
  • Text message codes don't arrive: check that the phone number you set up is correct and current. In the UAE, Trend Micro can't currently send SMS codes, so use the authenticator app or email codes.
  • You need to change a method's details: select "Manage" next to it, then "Change", and follow the instructions.

How to recover your Trend Micro account

Trend Micro's help pages don't describe backup codes for the TrendLife account. Your first fallback is a second 2FA method, such as text messages or email, which is why Trend Micro recommends setting up at least two. If you've lost access to your two-factor authentication device or phone number, chat with Trend Micro Support from the Trend Micro Help Center; a support representative will help you reset your two-factor authentication. If you have a new email address or phone number that isn't on your account yet, contact support as well.
