Ubiquiti UniFi 2FA Setup with an Authenticator App

ui.com SupportedChecked against official help · September 26, 2026

Your UI account at account.ui.com is the Ubiquiti login behind your UniFi services, so it guards access to your network. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) has been mandatory for every UI account since July 22, 2024, and besides Ubiquiti's own UI Verify app it accepts third-party authenticator apps such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator and Authy, so Authenticator App - Novaz works too.

A Ubiquiti UniFi account can control connected devices in your home, so 2FA keeps intruders out. Besides an authenticator app, Ubiquiti UniFi also offers email codes and a proprietary app. An authenticator app (TOTP) is usually the best balance of security and convenience.

2FA methods Ubiquiti UniFi supports

  • Authenticator app (TOTP)
  • Email code
  • Proprietary app

Before you start

  • Your UI account email and password
  • Access to the email address on your account: accounts without another MFA method had email authentication turned on automatically
  • Authenticator App - Novaz installed on your iPhone or iPad
  • account.ui.com open in a browser on a computer, so the QR code is on a different screen from your phone

Part 1: Turn on 2FA in Ubiquiti UniFi

  1. 1

    Sign in at account.ui.com

Go to account.ui.com in a web browser and sign in to your UI account.

  2. 2

    Open the Security section

Open the "Security" section of your account, where your MFA methods are listed.

  3. 3

    Add a new MFA method

Choose to add a new MFA method, pick an authenticator app and follow the on-screen instructions until a QR code appears. Keep it on screen.

Part 2: Add Ubiquiti UniFi to Authenticator App - Novaz

  1. 4

Scan the QR code with Authenticator App - Novaz

Open Authenticator App - Novaz, tap the + button and scan the QR code for your UI account. Use "UniFi" as the account name, then tap "Save".

  2. 5

    Note the one-time code

Authenticator App - Novaz now shows a one-time code for your UI account. It changes every 30 seconds, so have the current one ready.

Part 3: Confirm and finish

  1. 6

    Enter the code to confirm

Back on account.ui.com, enter the current code from Authenticator App - Novaz to confirm the new method.

  2. 7

Keep a second method and your recovery codes

Leave email authentication or UI Verify set up as well, and save any backup recovery codes Ubiquiti gives you somewhere other than your phone. Ubiquiti can't reset MFA for you.

If something goes wrong

  • The code is rejected: make sure your iPhone sets its date and time automatically (Settings > General > Date & Time), then enter the newest code.
  • You can't find a switch to turn MFA on: MFA is already mandatory on every UI account, so you're adding a method in the Security section rather than turning MFA on.
  • You'd rather approve sign-ins with a tap: Ubiquiti recommends its own UI Verify app for that, and you can keep it alongside Authenticator App - Novaz.
  • You lost your phone: sign in with another method you've set up, such as email authentication or a backup recovery code.

How to recover your Ubiquiti UniFi account

Ubiquiti can't reset MFA on a UI account. If you lose every method, you have to create a new account, which is why Ubiquiti advises setting up more than one method. Keep email authentication or UI Verify alongside Authenticator App - Novaz, save any backup recovery codes you're given, and when you move to a new phone, add Novaz there before you remove the old one. Authenticator App - Novaz also backs up your codes to your own iCloud, encrypted, so they come back on a new iPhone.

Frequently asked questions

Is MFA optional on a UI account?
No. MFA has been mandatory for every UI account since July 22, 2024. Accounts that had no other method got email authentication turned on automatically.
Do I have to use UI Verify?
No. Ubiquiti recommends UI Verify, but it supports third-party authenticator apps such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator and Authy, and Authenticator App - Novaz works the same way.
Can Ubiquiti support reset my MFA if I'm locked out?
No. Ubiquiti says it can't reset MFA, and losing every method means creating a new UI account. Set up more than one method so that never happens.
