How to add an account by scanning a QR code
When a service turns on two-factor authentication it shows a QR code. Scanning that code with Authenticator App stores the account's secret key on your device, and from then on the app generates a fresh 6-digit code every 30 seconds.
Scan the QR code
- On the service's website, open its security settings and start setting up two-factor authentication with an authenticator app.
- When the QR code appears, open Authenticator App on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap the button to add an account and choose to scan a QR code, then allow camera access if you're asked.
- Point your camera at the QR code — the account is added as soon as it's recognised.
- Type the 6-digit code the app shows back into the website to confirm, and save any backup codes it offers.
FAQ
- What if the QR code won't scan?
- Make sure the whole code is visible and well lit, and try increasing your screen brightness. If it still won't scan, use the setup key instead — most services show one under the QR code.
- Do I need an internet connection to scan?
- No. Adding an account and generating codes both work offline, because the codes are calculated on your device from the stored key and the current time.
Keep your 2FA codes in one secure place
Authenticator App - Novaz generates your codes offline, backs them up encrypted to your own iCloud, and locks behind Face ID — free and ad-free.
