How to use the built-in VPN
Public Wi-Fi is the classic place to get your traffic snooped on. The built-in VPN encrypts your connection, hides your IP address, and blocks ads while it's on.
Turn the VPN on
- Open Authenticator App and go to the VPN section.
- Turn the VPN on and allow the VPN configuration when iOS asks.
- Wait for it to connect — iOS shows a VPN badge in the status bar.
- Leave it on while you're using an untrusted network.
FAQ
- Should I leave the VPN on all the time?
- It's most valuable on public or unfamiliar networks. On your own trusted network you can leave it off; some apps and streaming services also behave better without it.
