Notion 2FA: How to Set Up an Authenticator App

Two-step verification keeps your Notion workspace, pages and notes out of reach even if someone learns your password. Notion accepts a code from an authenticator app as that second step, so Authenticator App - Novaz can generate it for you.

A Notion account carries private conversations, so keeping it secure with 2FA matters. Besides an authenticator app, Notion also offers SMS text codes. An authenticator app (TOTP) is usually the best balance of security and convenience — and it's safer than SMS codes, which can be intercepted through SIM-swap attacks.

Part 1: Turn on 2FA in Notion

    Open Settings & members

    Once you're signed in to Notion, head to the upper-left area of the sidebar and click "Settings & members".

    Switch on 2-step verification

    In the "My account" section, flip the toggle next to 2-step verification so it turns on.

    Choose Code from authenticator

    When Notion asks which verification method you want, pick "Code from authenticator".

    Leave the QR code on screen

    Notion now displays a QR code that holds your secret key. Keep this page open while you grab your phone, and scan the code on your own screen, not the example in the screenshot.

Part 2: Add Notion to Authenticator App - Novaz

    Scan the QR code with Authenticator App - Novaz

    Launch Authenticator App - Novaz, tap the + button, and point your camera at the QR code in your Notion browser tab.

    Check the details and save

    After a good scan, the app fills in the Notion logo, your account name and the secret key by itself. Tap the icon if you'd like a different one, then tap Save.

Part 3: Confirm and finish

    Give the method a name

    Switch back to Notion and type a label for this sign-in method, such as "Authenticator App - Novaz", so you'll recognize it later. Then click "Continue".

    Enter the one-time code

    Read the current code in Authenticator App - Novaz, type it into Notion's code field, and click "Verify code".

    Store your backup codes

    2-step verification is now active, and Notion will ask for a code from Authenticator App - Novaz each time you sign in. Keep the backup codes Notion shows in Authenticator App - Novaz or another secure place, then click "I've saved them".

If something goes wrong

  • Notion says the code is wrong: check that your iPhone's date and time are set automatically in Settings, then try the newest code.
  • The code ran out while you were typing: wait a moment for Authenticator App - Novaz to show the next code and enter that one.
  • The QR code won't scan: zoom in on the Notion page, turn up your screen brightness, or hold your phone a little farther back.
  • You lost your phone: sign in to Notion with one of the backup codes you saved in the final step.

How to recover your Notion account

If you lose access to your authenticator and Notion gave you backup or recovery codes when you turned on 2FA, sign in with one of them; keep them somewhere safe, away from your phone. Not every service issues codes. If Notion doesn't, or you didn't save them, use Notion's account-recovery or support process (or ask your admin, for a work account) to get back in.
