How to import accounts from another authenticator app
You don't have to re-enrol every account by hand. Authenticator App can import your existing accounts, either from an export QR code or from a CSV file.
Import your accounts
- In your old authenticator app, find its export or transfer option and produce an export QR code or a CSV file.
- Open Authenticator App and choose the import option in its settings.
- Scan the export QR code, or pick the CSV file you exported.
- Check the imported accounts generate the right codes, then remove them from the old app once you're confident.
Before you delete the old app
- Sign in to one or two accounts using the new codes first.
- Keep the old app installed until you've confirmed everything works.
- Make sure your backup is on so the imported accounts are protected.
FAQ
- Which apps can I import from?
- Any authenticator that can export its accounts as a transfer QR code or a CSV file. The 2FA standard (TOTP) is the same everywhere, so the codes keep working after the move.
- Will importing break my existing 2FA?
- No. Importing copies the same secret keys, so both apps generate valid codes until you remove the accounts from the old one.
Keep your 2FA codes in one secure place
