What to do if you lose the phone with your 2FA codes
Losing the device that generates your codes is stressful but recoverable — as long as you know which door to use. Work through these in order.
Get back in
- If you had iCloud backup on, install Authenticator App on a new device, sign in to the same iCloud account, and restore.
- If another of your Apple devices was in sync, use the codes there.
- If neither is available, sign in with each service's backup or recovery codes.
- For any account with no recovery codes, use that service's account-recovery or support process.
- Once you're back in, turn 2FA on again and store the new recovery codes safely.
Do this before it happens
- Turn on encrypted iCloud backup.
- Save each service's recovery codes somewhere separate from your phone.
- Keep the app installed on a second Apple device.
FAQ
- Can Novaz recover my accounts for me?
- No. Your accounts and secret keys never leave your device, so we have nothing to recover from. That's also why nobody else can take them from us.
Keep your 2FA codes in one secure place
Authenticator App - Novaz generates your codes offline, backs them up encrypted to your own iCloud, and locks behind Face ID — free and ad-free.
